Not in the slightest. The way I understand it is that most peoples devices (phones, tablets, laptops) are already vulnerable. That either through inherent vulnerability of the device or OS (usually easily rectified by manufacturer patch that the consumer doesn’t know about or ignores) or that they have horrible security conditions and their devices are already compromised by some sort of malware.
I thought that there are spammers, hackers, and criminals already just fishing for those cooperative computers that are used to mine bitcoin or host pseudo-legal business. That they don’t actually target people and just constantly scan for vulnerable computers that they can either use for their own purposes or attack individually.
My point is that I was under the impression that (just like most of the adult population has some sort of STD) a solid percentage of cell phones are already compromised and, as you say, prepared to work with someone else.
But I am an historian. Not in IT. And I stand by for my ignorance to be corrected.
