I completely agree that it is oversimplified but I had in mind merely an explanation of why Americans are so hostile to unions nowadays not why their economic and political influence waned. Much like today’s Right to Work laws, there was a concerted effort by politicians and corporations over the 20th century to negatively impact unions, but that wasn’t what I was trying to explain.
