I apologize for not being clearer, I did not mean that Europeans don’t like unions, only that European conservatives and libertarians don’t and that even with that dislike, they are in no way as hostile to them as American conservatives and libertarians.
I lived in Europe for a long time and the vast majority of Europeans, from all over the continent, are quite fond of their unions. I was just trying to explain this very special American attitude towards unions and some of the reasons for it.
I am not an apologist for anyone. But there is a demonstrable difference in the cultures of European and American unions which, in my opinion, has contributed to the general hostility that the American right has for unions. The protections I got from my union in Germany were awesome. The BS I described above would not ever have happened in that country. Unions are essential to a functioning free market but American unions have, for the reasons I articulated above among others, a long way to go before they can be to our workers what they are to European workers.
