Because it’s not corporate money. There has been no increase in corporate spending or union spending or whatever, it’s just going to independent groups instead of parties and establishment candidates. I don’t have the data on hand but I’d be willing to bet that the corporate spending is predominantly towards establishment people and groups while underdogs get more money from groups funneling small money donations.

Just a guess until I have some numbers though.
